Liz - 1970's colour sketch - By Pat Kent

This was one of my first attempts at colour painting after a very long lay off from doing any artwork at all.

The pencil sketch is on the "My Work" pages somewhere, posted sometime ago I think. The painting is of my wife, Liz, done from a black and white photo dating from her later teenage years.

I made a big mistake of not knowing or understanding my medium from the start, I used CS2 board and wasn't aware that the surface would simply not take water based paints, hence the rucked surface where the top sheet has lifted from the board.

Still, it was an experiment that I have learned by, it spoilt what I think was a reasonably good attempt to paint a portrait, but I'm sure I'll give this one another go one day soon.
